Check the Directory
⏱️ Estimated time: 3 minutes
Glean automatically builds a People Directory from the organization's identity provider (Entra ID / Azure AD). But it goes further — Glean enriches each profile with activity signals from across connected apps, so you can see what someone works on, who they collaborate with, and what topics they're an expert in.
Step 1 — Open the Directory
Click People in the left sidebar to open the Coverly employee directory.
You'll see a searchable list of all Coverly employees, organized by department. You can filter by:
- Department (e.g. Engineering, Sales, Marketing)
- Location (e.g. Palo Alto, London, Bangalore)
- Title or role
Step 2 — View an Employee Profile
Click on Lidia Holloway (Head of Product & Engineering) to open her profile.
On her profile page, you'll see:
| Section | What It Shows |
|---|---|
| Overview | Name, title, department, location, email, and reporting chain |
| Org Chart | Lidia's position in the hierarchy — who she reports to and her direct reports |
| Activity | Recent documents Lidia has authored or contributed to (visible only to your persona if you have access) |
| Expertise | Topics Glean has identified Lidia as an expert in, based on her activity patterns |
| Teams & Channels | Groups and channels Lidia is a member of |
Step 3 — Explore the Org Chart
From Lidia's profile, click Org Chart to see a visual representation of the reporting structure. You can click up, down, and sideways through the hierarchy to understand how Coverly is organized.
Try searching for a topic expert
In the search bar, type: Who knows about API integrations? Glean will surface people who have authored or engaged with API-related content — not just those who have "API" in their job title.
What to Notice
- Profiles are auto-populated — Glean pulls identity data from Entra ID and enriches it with activity from connected apps. No manual data entry needed
- Expertise is inferred — Glean identifies subject matter experts based on what they write, share, and discuss — not just what's on their LinkedIn profile
- Org chart is navigable — click through reporting lines to understand the organizational structure
- Everything respects permissions — you'll only see activity and documents on someone's profile if your persona has access to them
Why this matters
Finding the right person to talk to is one of the biggest time sinks in large organizations. Glean's directory turns a static list of names into a living knowledge graph — helping employees find experts, understand team structures, and onboard faster.
